Rail Safety Week 2024

As the school year winds down and the excitement of summer holidays builds up, it’s crucial to address a pressing issue: rail safety. With a notable increase in trespassing incidents on railways during school holidays, Rail Safety Week, taking place from June 24th to June 30th 2024, provides a timely and vital opportunity to educate students about staying safe around railways.

At Platform, we are dedicated to enhancing rail safety awareness, and we have developed an array of engaging resources tailored for schools. Our goal is to ensure that students understand the importance of rail safety before they embark on their summer adventures.

Why Rail Safety Week Matters

The statistics are alarming: trespassing on railways spikes significantly during school breaks. Young people, often seeking adventure or shortcuts, may not realize the dangers they are putting themselves in by entering railway property. Rail Safety Week aims to combat this by spreading crucial safety messages to students of all ages.

Resources for Schools

To support this initiative, Platform has created comprehensive, FREE and easy to download resources designed to captivate and educate students:

Assemblies for Primary and Secondary Schools: Our assemblies are crafted to be age-appropriate, ensuring that the messages resonate with students at different educational levels. These presentations are designed to be both informative and engaging, highlighting real-life stories and consequences of railway trespassing.

Rail Safety Myth Busting Films: To dispel common misconceptions and myths about rail safety, we have produced a series of short, engaging films. These films are perfect for classroom viewing and discussion, debunking myths such as the idea that there is a safe place to hide under the platform if you fall onto the tracks. You can watch the films and download our accompanying KS3 Tutor Time resources by clicking on the links below.

Get Involved

We encourage schools to take full advantage of UK Rail Safety Week by incorporating these resources into their end-of-term activities. By doing so, we can ensure that students head into their summer holidays armed with the knowledge to stay safe and avoid the dangers of trespassing on railways.

Together, we can make a significant impact on rail safety awareness and help prevent unnecessary accidents and injuries. Let’s work together to keep our students safe this summer.
