Trains and Translations
On Wednesday Imogen spent the morning with a Worcestershire HAF club at St Martin’s Church in Worcester. 80% of the children attending were from Ukraine so Platform partnered up with the Midlands’ Migrant Support Centre who provided a wonderful translator, Nadia, for the day. First, the children took part in a rail safety workshop, learning all about important safety features at train stations in the UK such as жовта лінія (the yellow line), and why they must never trespass on the railway.
Following this, they all had a go at constructing and decorating their own train carriage which were all put together to make a bold and colourful train.

The session ended with Imogen reading aloud ‘Arlo’s Adventures’, a choose-your-own-adventure story about travelling safely on the railway, which Nadia translated into Ukrainian. All the children made excellent, safe choices.
