Overview

In this lesson pack, find resources and materials to help students identify and evaluate the impact of Urbanisation on British biodiversity. Using case studies both abroad and in this nation, pupils will work towards designing and justifying a realistic mitigation strategy to protect an endangered species (the European hedgehog). The habitat will be designed as part of a real life case study, using real world opportunities and experience to relate the learning to an actual scenario for greater impact. Students will need to think about construction materials, as well as cost, to pursue a design that is both economical and sustainable. This lesson works on combining Geography, Science and DT skills together, to enable a robust and purposeful design.
This is an adaptable lesson that can be tweaked to suit the needs of your learners. Use their design skills to engineer a possible solution to a real-life problem, as well as raise awareness of the need for such situations.
