Autumnal Adventures
Crunchy leaves and golden trees: Autumn is here and the Platform team are back after the summer break.
On Monday, the Platform team travelled into Walwayne Court school to meet the 42 year 5 students, and their teachers, who were booked in for an Autumnal Adventure. In the school, Imogen carried out a free rail-safety workshop to get all the students ready for the following day.
As part of the workshop, Imogen did a knowledge grab – using QR code technology – at the beginning and end of the session, encouraged students to get up and get interactive when exploring how long it takes for a train to stop, and led a dress-up session that focused on rail careers.
The following day, the team met the students at Trowbridge Station and spent some time delivering rail familiarisation on site. Students were encouraged to use the information point, to spot the safety measures that had been discussed the previous day, and to consider any hazards around them.
As the train pulled into the station, the students waited patiently to board, taking care to let other passengers depart before safely getting on and finding seats. When they arrived at Bath Spa, Emilie and Imogen led the group out of the station and through Bath to Victoria Park.
It may have been a rainy day, but spirits were undampened as the pupils participated in their Autumn Adventure activities.
The session included encouraging the class to use all of their senses to explore the signs of autumn, and helped them get creative with colour and lines to produce a picture of their chosen tree in its autumnal state.
The group then took part in some poetry in the park, with each student adding a line of poetry to their pictures before sharing their beautiful words with the group.
Whilst lunchtime had to be spent beneath the bandstand – the rain was relentless – the group were able to make the most of an empty playground and had time to run, laugh, explore and play before the return journey home.
